With that support in hand, Kagan goes before the Senate Judiciary Committee today to begin her confirmation hearings.
She faces no strong opposition, although some Republicans have promised to scrutinize her and other Justice Department picks thoroughly, accusing the Obama administration and Democrats of rushing nominees through.
“Americans expect each of these nominees to be thoroughly vetted, particularly in light of the administration’s recent vetting mishaps,” a GOP committee aide told The Washington Post.
